Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl: More than just another restaurant

            The moment that I first found out I was going to Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl, I really had no idea what to expect. When we first pulled up to the restaurant I thought we were lost. I was looking all around but could not seem to find the restaurant. Then it came to me, the house I was standing in front of was actually the restaurant. The first thought that hit me once I realized we would be eating here was, I felt was if I was entering another person’s personal home. The appearance is not only welcoming, but really made you feel like you were in for a real one of a kind eating experience. Ever since that day I have been going Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl, the little restaurant that locals would say it’s a must stop for all travelers. Today I am going to Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl and will give an overall review on the restaurant. I expect noting but the best in my dining experience, for Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl never disappoints the customer.

            First I will be describing the ambiance of the restaurant. The first thing that you notice when you enter this restaurant is the whole restaurant is black in while. From the booths that you are seated at, to the plates you eat off of, everything is black in white. Once you enter the restaurant you feel as if you are traveling back in time. With the complete restaurant with the black and white themes, it really makes it seem as if you were back in time. Also the uniforms that the waiters are wearing all consist of the same attire. The workers ware black slacks, a white short sleeved dress shirt, and a matching black bow tie to give it that authentic touch. The music they were playing when I entered the restaurant blended perfectly with the sounds coming from the back of the kitchen. You can hear the old jazz, and the classic songs from the 1950’s playing in the background. The food is also made as people would say “old fashion”. The hot dogs and burgers made fresh from a grill, and the fries always freshly cut. I can always smell the fresh foods from behind the kitchen doors, and visualize myself eating the food even before I get it. I was more than impressed when I walked in today, but that’s exactly what I expected from this restaurant. For they seem to outdo their self every time I come back.

            Now let’s talk about the overall cleanliness of the restaurant. One thing that I noticed right away even before I entered the restaurant was the sidewalk in front of it was much cleaner than any other part of the street. Also you will never find I single piece of trash in their parking lot. Even though they take you back in time, they keep it more than clean. I also noticed how their landscaping outside of the restaurant is always in top notch and in the spring and summer seasons you can smell the flowers as you walk by. Another thing I noticed when entering this restaurant was that there was no visible smudges on the glass from dirty fingerprints, or any markings at that. I always make sure I brush my sneakers of you the outside rug, which is very clean for being outside. Once inside the restaurant I looked down, it made me squint from how shinny the polished black checked floor tiles where. Before I got my food I decided to check on how clean the bathrooms where. Once I entered the bathroom I instantly got a strong whiff of bathroom cleaner. Not so much that it burnt my noise hair, but just enough of a smell to ensure you that they are always checking in on their bathrooms. Another noticeable thing was they had fresh urinal cakes that kept a nice fresh minty hint to the restroom. While I was walking back to my seat I also noticed that right when people left the waiter hurried over and gave the seat where they were sitting, and the table they were eating at a good wipe down. This is how clean I expected this restaurant to be when I entered, for being clean is nothing new to them.

            Next I will be discussing the quality of the food at Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl. When I ordered my meal I asked for my usual. Two juicy grilled hotdogs, and some of their freshly seasoned French fries. The quality of the food is more than great. It’s tremendous! Never have I once went to Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl and got anything less than what my taste buds would consider amazing. I could smell my food as they cooked it in the kitchen, and my mouth began watering instantly. When the waiter handed us our food I was in a loss for words! The aroma that the juicy hot dogs gave out was heavenly. If I were to walk outside with hot dogs smelling that good, I would have had every dog in the neighborhood barking and drooling at my feet. They did not only smell good, but tasted just as well. The quality is like nothing I have ever had before. From the soft bun that tucked in the wiener, to the slightly grilled lines that crossed on the outside of it, everything seemed to fall right in place. The quality was not only acceptable but that amount was to. I have never left there unsatisfied on the amount of food I have received, and for a price that you can’t beat anywhere else. The ice cream there is what really makes the restaurant famous for what they do. I have never in my life tasted any other ice cream that was more rich, and creamier than the ice cream served at Tom’s. Their most famous is a black and white. That consists of vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, marshmallows, and crushed Oreos flaked upon the mass on ice cream.  I was more than satisfied with the quality of food that I received, and was in no surprise, for I knew that Tom’s also provides good quality and fresh food.

            The service at Tom’s ice cream is always a step above the rest from any other restaurant that I have been to. With their unique uniforms, and the way that they always have a smile on their face, you can’t help but to put yourself in a good mood. When I was there I was very pleased on the time it took for us to find a set, and to order our food. The waiter was so kind, and treated me as if I was the owner of the restaurant. Never have I ever had a problem with the service at Tom’s, for it has always been superb. Weather you spill your drink on the floor, or make a mess at your table, which the people sitting beside me that day happen to do both of these things, the waiters do not complain or act like they never saw it, but rather tell them everything will be fine, and offer them another drink. The service is always fast and friendly and never seems to disappoint. Our waiter seemed to always stop by at just the right time to fill my glass up just when I was getting low. I was very happy with the service and expected to be for every time I have been to Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl they always have some of the best service around.

            The presentation and overall layout of the restaurant is very well set up. The booths with a pearl white top with a black trim, and the midnight black booth seats blend perfectly with one another. The checked black and white floors that run throughout the entire restaurant match perfect with the theme. The painting on the walls and the seats at the bar all match one another. Nothing ever seems to be out of place, and everything seems to match. The presentation of my food when it came out was very nicely set up; it came out with two white plates with a black trim. One plate containing my hotdogs, and the other my French fries. Also the bowl what my ice cream came in matched as well. They always make sure to put a cherry on top of the ice cream, with just a bit of whip cream. The presentation of Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl is both different, and always in an orderly manner. I was glad to see the restraints great presentation, and could expect that from a great restaurant such as Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl.

            After my recent visit at Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl, I was very pleased and satisfied with the overall visit. I have discussed the ambiance, cleanliness, quality of the food, service, and presentation. I must say that in every category I was very pleaded in what I saw. I urge you to go to Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl for yourself and experience the wonderful food, people and look back into history that comes with it.

            Overall I give this restaurant 4.5 out of 5 because it was more than good in all of the categories that I rated. I believe this is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to, and suggest any one to go that is looking for that unique dinning experience.
